Will Ferry puts Dundee United contract talks on hold as David Bates shines in Turkey

Will Ferry has put contract talks with Dundee United on hold, with the Republic of Ireland international unwilling to settle his future during September.

The 25-year-old has not ruled out the possibility of remaining at Tannadice beyond next summer, leaving the door open to a longer stay despite pausing discussions over a new deal.

Elsewhere, Scotland-capped defender David Bates has been an ever-present since joining Turkish side Amed this summer. The 29-year-old’s arrival has coincided with the club climbing to the top of the Super Lig, just months after they were promoted.

At Ibrox, vice-captain Dan Neil has admitted Rangers “probably weren’t ready for” their European fixtures earlier this season, a campaign that ended with the club exiting both the Europa League and the Conference League.

Stephen Robinson, meanwhile, is eager to see his Aberdeen side emerge from the international break even stronger.

And Dundee manager Steven Pressley “couldn’t be happier” to see two of his former players, Luke Graham and Jon McCracken, included in the Scotland squad.
