Haaland becomes second player to score against every Premier League opponent he has faced

Erling Haaland has become only the second player in Premier League history to score against every league opponent he has played against. The Manchester City striker’s second-half goal in City’s 5-3 win over Sunderland took him to 25 opponents faced in the competition and 25 opponents scored against. He could move to 26 this season should he score against Hull City.

The only other player to have achieved the feat — with a minimum of two opponents — is England captain Harry Kane, who scored against all 32 clubs he faced in the Premier League. Neither Haaland nor Kane, however, features in the top 10 for the highest number of different opponents scored against, a list shaped by longevity in the division as much as by scoring rate.

That list is led by Frank Lampard, the current Coventry boss, whose 178 Premier League goals between 1997 and 2015 came against 39 different opponents. Former Manchester United striker Andrew Cole sits second with 38.

Former England internationals Alan Shearer and Jermain Defoe follow, each having scored against 37 different teams, while Wayne Rooney (36) and Teddy Sheringham (35) complete the top six.

The top 11 is rounded out by a five-strong group on 34 apiece: Thierry Henry, Michael Owen, Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard and Ryan Giggs.
