Oskar Kordus dies aged 20 after deer smashes through his windshield

Oskar Kordus, a 20-year-old defender with the Polish club Kania Gostyn, has died in a traffic accident after a deer went through the windshield of his car.

The chain of events that led to his death began with an animal that had already been hit by another driver, travelling in a Volkswagen, who escaped the incident unharmed. According to the Polish outlet Gostyn24, the deer was thrown with such force that it passed through the windshield of Oskar Kordus’s BMW, who was driving in the opposite direction on the same road, and struck him directly in the face.

The collision happened early in the morning on the Gostyn ring road, on the DW434 section between Krajewice and Grabonog, in western Poland.

Firefighters who attended the scene immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation, managing to restart the young player’s heart before he was transferred by medical helicopter to a hospital in Poznan. Despite the medical efforts, he died from his injuries that same night.

Kordus played in the fourth division of Polish football and had previously represented Korona Piaski, Zaglebie Lubin and Warta Poznan.

His club, Kania Gostyn, paid tribute in a statement: “With immense sadness and deep disbelief, we have received the news of the death of our player, Oskar Kordus. On behalf of the entire Kania Gostyn community, we express our sincerest condolences to Oskar’s family, loved ones, and friends. In these moments of extreme difficulty, we share their pain and keep them in our thoughts and hearts. Rest in peace, Oskar.”
