Forest Green Rovers have granted manager Robbie Savage permission to speak to another club, amid speculation linking him with the vacant managerial position at Peterborough United.
The National League side confirmed that Savage will not be in the dugout for Tuesday night’s fixture at home to Wealdstone.
Savage was asked on Saturday whether he had heard from Peterborough and did not dismiss the speculation, though he said he did not know whether the club had made contact. “I don’t know, I’ve got a game to prepare for and I’m really excited to watch my team,” he told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
The 51-year-old former Wales international was appointed at Forest Green on 1 July 2025, having previously managed non-league Macclesfield Town. As a player, he spent his career as a midfielder with clubs including Derby County, Birmingham City, Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers, and the Forest Green post is his first managerial role in the top five tiers of English football.
His first season in charge brought a seventh-place finish in the table, though Forest Green’s promotion push ended with defeat in the play-off eliminators. This season they sit 12th after 10 matches, with four wins, two draws and four defeats.
Peterborough are searching for a new manager after sacking Luke Williams on 19 September following a poor start to the campaign. They currently sit 23rd in League One, with just one win from eight league games.
