Manchester City are navigating one of the most turbulent periods in their history. The case involving the 115 charges brought against the club by the Premier League remains open, and the scenario that has emerged suggests 114 of them would have been found guilty. A ruling on that scale would reach well beyond a financial sanction: possible consequences include an eventual expulsion from the league, the removal of previous titles and major upheaval within the squad.
That is the context in which Erling Haaland’s name enters the conversation. The striker is under contract at Manchester City until 2034, which means a departure still looks a long way off. Should the club’s future change significantly, however, the picture could look very different — and the obvious question would be where Haaland might go next.
SciSports, a platform specialising in football data analysis, has already examined how well Haaland would fit at other clubs. It compared his profile against a range of teams using its Club Fit metric. Barcelona came out on top of the study with a score of 80, the highest mark among the sides analysed, placing the Catalan club first for compatibility with the Norwegian forward in that model.
That result is not evidence that Haaland is going to sign for Barcelona, nor that any negotiation exists between the player and the club. The data simply places Barcelona among the teams that could make sense for him under certain circumstances.
The question can also be read from Barcelona’s side. Robert Lewandowski’s stage at the club is bringing the need to identify the team’s next attacking reference closer, and in that scenario Haaland matches the profile the club could be looking for: a centre forward capable of taking on a leading role, occupying the box and becoming one of the side’s main offensive references.
