Everton owner The Friedkin Group exploring sale of a controlling interest in the club

Everton’s owner, The Friedkin Group, is exploring the potential sale of a controlling interest in the club. A statement issued on Friday said the group is looking into new investment options for Everton, with a sale among the possibilities under consideration.

The announcement comes after a takeover completed in December 2024, which ended the turbulent era of Farhad Moshiri at the club. In its statement, the group described the position it found on arrival, saying the club faced significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch when TFG became its custodians.

TFG said its immediate priority had been to provide the stability, investment and support needed to secure Everton’s future, including helping to bring the long-promised stadium to completion for its supporters. With that foundation now safely in place, the group stated that the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton.

Any change of ownership would not be entered into lightly, according to the statement, which said the group will only entertain interest from parties it strongly believes will be the right stewards to take the club forward and build on the momentum that has been established.
