Sheffield United legend Billy Sharp has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 40, bringing an end to a career that spanned 22 years.
Sharp scored 299 goals across that career, which took him through a long list of English clubs. Alongside his spells with Sheffield United, he played for Rushden & Diamonds, Scunthorpe United, Southampton, Nottingham Forest, Reading, Leeds United and Doncaster Rovers.
His strongest association was with Sheffield United, his home-city club, for whom he made 377 appearances.
Sharp had been a free agent since leaving Doncaster Rovers at the end of last season, and he signed off in style in his final game, scoring a hat-trick against Peterborough.
