Alessia Russo has been named England women’s player of the year, collecting the award for the second time in three seasons. The Arsenal forward took the honour ahead of Chelsea pair Lucy Bronze and Hannah Hampton, with the winner decided by a supporters’ vote.
Russo, 27, has been central to England’s 2025-26 campaign, appearing in all 10 matches and scoring five goals. She has now made 68 appearances for her country, scoring 31 times. Last week she scored England’s third goal in a 3-1 win over Greece in the first leg of their 2027 World Cup play-off semi-final.
“To receive the award is really special, particularly as it comes directly from the fans. I am so grateful for their support,” Russo said. “A big thank you also to my team-mates – it is always about the collective.”
England host Greece in the second leg at Leicester’s King Power Stadium on Tuesday, with Russo’s side holding a two-goal advantage from the opening meeting.
