Tony Bloom would be “really disappointed” if Hearts fail to win the Scottish Premiership by 2035

Tony Bloom says he would be “really disappointed” if Hearts have not won the Scottish Premiership within 10 years, restating the title target he set when he bought into the Edinburgh club.

The Brighton chairman completed the purchase of a 29% stake in Hearts in June 2025, at which point he vowed to “disrupt the pattern of domination which has been in place for far too long” and set out his ambition of reaching top spot within a decade.

Hearts came close to a first title since 1960 last season, leading the league for 250 days before a dramatic final-day defeat at Celtic Park left them two points behind the champions. “The way it ended, in difficult circumstances from a Hearts point of view, is exceptionally disappointing for the club and for me as well,” Bloom told Sky Sports. “At the end of the day, we’ve got to accept what’s happened, if not be happy about how things ended.”

Celtic and Rangers have won every Scottish title since Aberdeen’s success in 1985, but Bloom believes Hearts are on course to break that hold. Asked about his initial target, he replied: “I’d be really disappointed if Hearts have not won the Scottish Premiership within the 10 years.”

There has been a significant turnover of personnel at Tynecastle since that near miss on the final day in May. Head coach Derek McInnes left for Rangers, along with captain Lawrence Shankland and midfielder Cammy Devlin, and Wouter Vrancken has taken charge. Hearts remain unbeaten at home in the league for more than a year and sit third, behind the Old Firm, ahead of Sunday’s visit to Celtic.

“We’ve started reasonably well, so again we’ve got to be hopeful and optimistic for the season to come,” Bloom said. “It was really difficult with the head coach coming in literally just before the start of pre-season, but as a football club you have to recover, and you have to recover quickly. I think we have done. We’ve brought in a lot of new players, and there’s a lot to play for in the season for Hearts, so I think there’s a lot for the Hearts fans to look forward to.”
