Jamie Carragher will not be made bankrupt after the former Premier League footballer settled an unpaid tax bill with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
A bankruptcy petition issued against the 48-year-old in August was dismissed at the Insolvency and Companies Court by Judge Nicholas Briggs. Kevin Hassan, acting for HMRC, told the hearing in London that the debt had been paid. No figure was given in court, although the sum had previously been put at somewhere in the region of £700,000 to £800,000.
Carragher, from Merseyside, spent his entire professional career with Liverpool, coming through at the club and going on to form part of the squad that won the Champions League in 2005. He retired in 2013 after making 737 appearances for Liverpool.
Since hanging up his boots, Carragher has moved into broadcasting and works as a pundit, regularly appearing on Sky Sports and CBS Sports.
