Peterborough United have sacked manager Luke Williams after Saturday’s home defeat by Doncaster Rovers left the club second from bottom in League One. The loss was Peterborough’s third in a five-game winless run in the league, a sequence that has left them just one point above Wigan Athletic at the foot of the table.
The dismissal brings an end to a tenure that had produced a notable cup bright spot amid difficult league form. Four days before the Doncaster defeat, Williams guided Peterborough into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup for the first time since 2009, overseeing a 7-6 penalty shootout win against Barnsley after the game had finished 3-3.
Williams, a former Swansea City and Notts County boss, lasted less than 11 months in the job. He replaced Darren Ferguson — who was in his fourth spell with the club — in October 2025, when Peterborough were bottom of the table. The side recovered to finish 18th under the 45-year-old, but another slow start this term has cost him his position after just seven league games.
Peterborough have managed only one league win from those seven matches this season.
