Aston Villa sack manager Natalia Arroyo with club second-bottom of WSL

Aston Villa have sacked their women’s manager Natalia Arroyo, with the club sitting second-bottom of the Women’s Super League on two points from their opening four matches.

Arroyo was appointed in January 2025 and steered Villa to safety in her first months in charge. She then led the side to a ninth-placed finish in her first full campaign, but that season closed with four successive defeats, and the poor form has carried into the current one.

Villa confirmed that Brian Sørensen, the women’s technical adviser, will take temporary charge of the team. His interim spell includes the Subway Players Cup tie against Newcastle on Wednesday. Sørensen brings extensive coaching experience to the role, having previously worked in the WSL with Everton.

In a club statement, Villa paid tribute to the departing manager: “Everyone at Aston Villa would like to thank Natalia for her efforts and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”
