Declan Rice close to agreeing new long-term Arsenal contract

Declan Rice is close to agreeing a new long-term contract at Arsenal, with sources telling BBC Sport that talks have reached an advanced stage.

The England midfielder has been a central figure for Arsenal since joining from West Ham for £105m in July 2023. His current deal is due to expire at the end of next season, and BBC Sport reported in March that negotiations over an extension were already under way.

Rice, 27, has made more than 150 starts for Arsenal and remains a key player for England. This week, England manager Thomas Tuchel described him as one of the best midfielders in Europe.

Any new agreement would bring a significant increase on Rice’s reported £240,000-per-week salary, putting him on a par with Arsenal’s best earner, Bukayo Saka, who is believed to earn about £350,000 a week.

The development follows Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s new four-year deal with the Premier League champions, which was announced on Tuesday.
