Everton forward Martin Sherif fined £5,000 by FA over betting rules breach

Everton forward Martin Sherif has been fined £5,000 by the Football Association after admitting to breaching the governing body’s betting rules.

The 20-year-old accepted that he placed 61 bets on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026, a period spanning 15 months. In a statement, the FA said: “The player admitted breaching FA Rule E1.2 by causing, permitting, or enabling 61 bets to be placed on football matches.”

Sherif was born in Liberia and joined Everton’s youth set-up in 2019, working his way through the club’s academy system before beginning to train with the first team in early 2025.

In February he moved to Port Vale on loan for the remainder of the season. He scored twice in 17 League One appearances for the club, who were relegated.
