Hartlepool appoint Pete Wild as September managerial changes reshape 2026-27 season

The 2026-27 season’s managerial turnover has continued into October, with Hartlepool making the latest permanent appointment. The running list of ins and outs across the Premier League, Scottish Premiership, Women’s Super League, English Football League and National League shows Pete Wild taking charge at Hartlepool on 1 October.

Wild’s appointment came after Lee Clark left Hartlepool on 19 September. That was one of several September departures, with Luke Williams also leaving Peterborough on the same day.

Preston North End experienced a change in the dugout during the month. Paul Heckingbottom departed on 13 September, and Graham Alexander was appointed on 28 September. Alexander’s move to Preston was recorded on the same day that he left Bradford City.

Earlier in September, Michael Duff left Wycombe Wanderers on 8 September. His departure was the first EFL manager sacking of the 2026-27 season. On 7 September, Glenn Whelan left Livingston.
