Hibernian ban Block Seven supporters’ group for three matches after Tannadice disorder

Hibernian have banned their Block Seven supporter group from their next three matches after pictures showed some visiting fans clashing with police and stewards during Saturday’s Scottish Premiership game away to Dundee United.

The club confirmed the sanction in a statement, naming the three fixtures covered by the ban: the home meetings with Falkirk and Celtic at Easter Road, and the away trip to St Mirren. Hibernian said the punishment had been discussed with the Scottish Professional Football League, and that it follows a one-match ban handed out as a result of an incident occurring earlier this season.

The decision came after Hibs had said on Monday that they would “take appropriate action as necessary” once they had “established the full circumstances” surrounding the scenes that unfolded in the away end at Tannadice, where the team suffered defeat in head coach Marink Reedijk’s first match in charge.

Hibernian made clear that the matter is not closed. The club said its investigation into the events at Tannadice is ongoing and that it will continue to work with supporters, Police Scotland and Dundee United FC, with further action — including additional sanctions on an individual and/or collective basis — to be considered once that process is complete.

The club also stressed the wider responsibility it carries towards its fanbase. “The safety and well-being of every supporter who attends our matches is a top priority for the football club. No-one should feel unsafe or uncomfortable when supporting Hibernian and behaviour that puts others at risk is unacceptable,” the statement read, adding that the club would continue to address unacceptable conduct so as not to undermine the experience of the wider Hibs support and thanking supporters for their continued backing.

The move on the Block Seven group came on the same day that police revealed 10 more people had been charged in connection with disorder following Hibs’ match away to St Johnstone last month.
