Ezri Konsa and Nico O’Reilly are doubts for England’s Nations League match against the Czech Republic on Tuesday night after the pair missed training on Monday morning. They were the only two members of the England squad absent from the session, with both following individual programmes.
The fitness concerns come after both players completed the full 90 minutes in England’s 3-2 defeat by Spain at Wembley on Saturday. O’Reilly, the Manchester City defender, started at left-back, a position he made his own during the World Cup. His mistake allowed Alex Baena to draw Spain level at 2-2, and the World Cup winners went on to claim victory.
If O’Reilly is unavailable, Lewis Hall could get an opportunity to play. Konsa’s potential absence would also raise a question in central defence, where Jarrad Branthwaite could be a contender to start. Branthwaite came on for Marc Guehi late in the Spain match. The Arsenal centre-back Konsa has become one of Tuchel’s most trusted players and started seven of England’s eight matches at the World Cup, where England reached the semi-finals.
England are in the middle of a busy international window featuring four matches. After losing to Spain, they face the Czech Republic both home and away, with a trip to Rijeka to play Croatia in between.
