Ouattara rescues Brentford point as Hull’s winless run reaches seven

Hull City’s unbeaten home record remains intact, but their wait for a victory stretched to seven games after a 1-1 Premier League draw with Brentford at the MKM Stadium. Brentford secured their fourth consecutive away draw, with Dango Ouattara’s second-half equaliser cancelling out Oli McBurnie’s first-half penalty.

McBurnie put Hull ahead in the 24th minute from the spot after Aaron Hickey flattened Tim Iroegbunam inside the area while trying to hook the ball away. McBurnie sent the penalty into the bottom right corner, and although Caoimhin Kelleher guessed the right way, the Brentford goalkeeper could not keep it out. The goal was McBurnie’s first in the Premier League for more than 900 days.

Brentford had the first notable chance after 11 minutes when Hull faltered in midfield and allowed Hickey to unleash a shot that Konstantinos Tzolakis dealt with comfortably. Ten minutes later, Mohamed Belloumi found McBurnie inside the box, but as the Scot was preparing to strike, Mathias Jensen rushed forward to foil the attempt. The penalty came when Hickey, having failed to collect a ball from Kelleher, lunged at Iroegbunam and floored him.

After the break, Hull were left to rue inattentive defending as Brentford equalised in the 63rd minute. Igor Thiago found Ouattara, who slotted the ball home under very little pressure to make it 1-1.

Jaidon Anthony pushed for a second Brentford goal and saw a shot land just wide before getting a second chance, which forced a save from Tzolakis. There was a quick counter at the other end as Mohamed Belloumi raced in the opposite direction before firing over from distance. An 88th-minute chance was Hull’s last to find a winner, but Mohamed-Ali Cho’s cross to Joe Gelhardt resulted in an off-target shot, ensuring the Tigers took no more than a point as their wait for an away win continues.

Both clubs were required to pick through the remnants of the pre-match display in the opening minutes, with balloons and litter carried on to the pitch by the strong winds of Storm Boelo.
