Match week five is the last set of Premier League fixtures before the extended September international break, and it arrives with the table already stretched at both ends. Arsenal and Manchester City have yet to drop a point this season, while Tottenham Hotspur and Coventry City have yet to score a league goal after four matches. For everyone in between, it is a final opportunity to bank a result before the pause.
The round begins on Friday, 18 September, when Brentford host Chelsea at 20:00 BST. Saturday, 19 September, opens with Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa at 12:30, before Brighton and Hove Albion v Arsenal, Everton v Ipswich Town and Newcastle United v Hull City all kick off at 15:00. Nottingham Forest v Coventry City closes the day at 17:30.
Four more matches follow on Sunday, 20 September. Bournemouth v Liverpool, Manchester City v Sunderland and Leeds United v Crystal Palace all start at 14:00, with Fulham v Manchester United rounding off the weekend at 16:30. All times are BST.
The clubs go into the weekend off the back of a record summer of spending. Premier League sides broke their all-time transfer window record, committing £3.49bn.
Match of the Day will carry the goals and the talking points from the round on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, at 22:20 on Saturday and 22:30 on Sunday. Highlights of every Premier League match have featured on the BBC Sport website throughout the 2026-27 season, and at weekends they are available in the UK on the BBC Sport app, website and iPlayer on Saturdays and Sundays, usually from 20:00 BST. Final Score begins on iPlayer and the Red Button at 14:45 and on BBC One from 15:45, with Final Score: The Reaction following on iPlayer from 17:15.
