Rabbi Matondo signs for Hibernian until end of season as Marink Reedijk’s first recruit

Hibernian have signed Wales winger Rabbi Matondo on a deal until the end of the season, with the option of a further year. The 26-year-old former Rangers player arrives at Easter Road after a trial period with the club.

The move makes Matondo the first signing of new Hibernian manager Marink Reedijk, who replaced David Gray in the dugout last month.

Matondo’s arrival follows his departure from Norway’s Brann in August, which ended a five-month spell there. He spent close to four years at Ibrox, a stint that also included a loan at Hannover, and he has previously featured for Schalke, Stoke City and Cercle Brugge.

Around two thirds of his 70 Rangers appearances came in the Scottish Premiership, and all but one of his eight goals for the club were scored in the top flight, including one against Hibernian.

At international level, the most recent of Matondo’s 15 Wales caps came last year, and 2025 was also the year he scored his only international goal so far, in a 3-1 victory over Kazakhstan.

Reedijk said of the signing: “He made an immediate impression during our time in La Manga and has shown a great attitude, strong application and a real willingness to learn and adapt.

“Rabbi gives us pace, directness and a real threat in wide areas, while also bringing a positive personality into the dressing room.

“He has settled in quickly and we are looking forward to working with him and seeing the impact he can make.”
