Peterborough United have confirmed the appointment of Robbie Savage as their new manager. The Welshman leaves his role at Forest Green Rovers to take over at the League One club.
Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony described the appointment in enthusiastic terms. “Excitement is the word I can use to describe the appointment of Robbie Savage as our new manager. A word I personally haven’t used about our football club for too long,” he said. MacAnthony added that Savage’s “personality, character and mindset” is what the club needs “top to bottom”, and that nobody will work harder to get Peterborough “up and running again”. He also said the board were “blown away” by Savage during an extensive interview, and that his hunger to fix the club’s issues and restore confidence in a talented squad was what excited him most.
Savage explained that the club’s style of football was the decisive factor in his decision. “What attracted me to the club is the size of the club, the philosophy, working with young players and making them better, but the style of football was key,” he said. He added that he had based his football philosophy at previous clubs on the way Peterborough play, and that he has studied the club for a number of years.
