England open their Women’s World Cup playoff semi-final against Greece in Crete, with the first leg kicking off at 5.30pm BST. Sarina Wiegman has made two changes to her side, both of them in defence, from England’s previous World Cup qualifier against Ukraine in the summer.
Leah Williamson and Alex Greenwood come back into the team, replacing Jess Carter and Niamh Charles. Both Carter and Charles are named among England’s substitutes, alongside Keating, Moorhouse, Potter, Fisk, Park, Mead, Parkinson, Godfrey and Toone.
England line up in a 4-3-3: Hampton in goal; Le Tissier, Williamson, Morgan and Greenwood across the back; Stanway, Walsh and Blindkilde Brown in midfield; and Hemp, Russo and James in attack. Ella Toone, recalled late to the Lionesses squad, is among the options on the bench, with Wiegman having praised the midfielder’s attitude following that call-up.
Greece also set up in a 4-3-3. Petaloti starts in goal behind a back four of Giannaka, Gkouni, Markou and Paterna. Drakogiannaki, Brame and Moraitou form the midfield, with Sarri, Papatheodorou and Brouksair leading the attack. The Greece bench comprises Giannakouli, Katergiannaki, Ntarzanou, Theodoraki, Kapnisi, Chalatsogianni, Tzourtzevits, Saich, Rapani, Pouliou, Tsela and Kongouli.
The first leg will be officiated by the Italian referee Martina Molinaro.
