Wycombe Wanderers have signed former Burnley, Liverpool and England striker Danny Ings.
The 34-year-old began this campaign without a club, having spent last season in the Championship with Sheffield United. His move to Adams Park makes managerless League One side Wycombe the eighth club of a 17-year professional career that started at Bournemouth.
Ings is available for selection to make his debut in Saturday’s meeting with Reading at Adams Park, a ground where Wycombe are yet to win this season. The club sit 14th in the table and have been without a permanent manager since parting company with Michael Duff on 8 September, with Tom Hounsell in caretaker charge since then.
His arrival brings a familiar face into the building: Ings played alongside Wycombe coach Sam Vokes during his time at Burnley. The Winchester-born forward has also turned out for Liverpool, where he was one of Brendan Rodgers’ last signings in the summer of 2015, before big-money moves to Southampton, Aston Villa and West Ham United. Across his career he has scored 122 goals in 434 appearances, including two last season with Sheffield United, and he scored once in his three England caps, in a friendly against Wales in 2020.
Wycombe director of football strategy and data intelligence Tom Stockwell said the striker has already settled in with the squad. “Danny joined up with the team on Friday last week,” he said. “He has trained with the group since, so we know he’s fit and sharp, and ready.”
